Exploratory Research on Overfertilization in Grain Production and Its Relationship with Financial Factors: Evidence from China

Although there have been many studies on the degree of overfertilization, are few systematic comparative analyses overfertilization three major grain crops (wheat, rice, and maize) over a long time span in recent years. Whereas influence government efforts, individual characteristics farmers, economic factors farmer’s fertilization decision ignored financial consideration farmers. This study aims to systematically investigate production 21 provinces China from 2004 2018 by developing panel-data model, explores impact applying Arellano-Bover/Blundell-Bond linear dynamic estimation. The results showed an upward trend 2010 2018, although decline between 2007 2009 may indicate that crisis had short-term overfertilization. Overfertilization varied across regions, chemical fertilizers were applied most excessively wheat Huang-Huai-Hai region maize Southwest China. analysis cash earnings positively affected whereas cost farmers’ income opposite effects.
